Racism Quiz

May 14th, 2008 by shorewoodbaird2 in Uncategorized · No Comments

1. He revealed he was racist to give credit to the test. That way people would beleive it was an accurate test, not just some stupid pointless thing.

2. These tests don’t measure unconscious racism because unconscious racism does not exist. To be racist your thoughts must be conscious.

3. Sexism is harder to overlook then racism, they showed that by doing the jersey test.

4. In america men are sexist and will view women not as they are and this will create a mismatch in how they are and how they are supposed to be.

5. I don’t think women face a major problem, they are not not being hired because they are women, in fact, many more women are getting jobs while men lose jobs.

6. This can be solved by having educated female teachers.

DSP/ Raisin in Sun

May 7th, 2008 by shorewoodbaird2 in Uncategorized · No Comments

DSP- I thought most of the stories were entertaining and good productions. I was particularly impressed by the Lego movie but I have a feeling that more time went into it than any other project. I thought the movies that went for comedy were the best and the ones using video that was produced by the group worked the best.

Raisin In the Sun-  I do not believe that in this country the color of your skin impacts your all that much. This country is full of negative stereotypes but these are more by social status, money, and actions than by the color of your skin. Their is racism however, Shorewood’s majority is rich and white and so there is race conflicts but it is traced back to money, where you live, and how you treat others.

Power

April 27th, 2008 by shorewoodbaird2 in Uncategorized · No Comments

Blaise Pascal:Justice without force is powerless; force without justice is tyrannical.

I agree with this quote because it is true. Having a society where everyone is nice to each other and nobody has issues with each other is not human nature. The only way to have a society that is just and righteous is to have some muscle to back it up.  And just a justice needs some backup, backup needs justice. If you have a leader who rules just because he is the strongest and kills his opposition then the people will not be happy. This is just if you look at this quote as a society thing. Justice is not always powerless, if you look at justice as good and tyranny as bad then you get a whole different outcome. Good and Bad are really the same, we just support one side and dont support the other. Power also comes i many ways, you can be weak but have strong allies. You can be the least skilled but have the biggest gun. The point I am trying to make is that this quote is true because it is supported but if you go into detail than the quote loses its meaning.

48 Ways to land in HELL

April 11th, 2008 by shorewoodbaird2 in Uncategorized · No Comments

Law 2: Never put too much trust in friends, learn how to use enemies.

This laws says that friends are more likely to betray and they are feared more than enemies. This obviously proves a lack of social skills and perceptions by the authors because they seem paranoid, or simply do not have any friends and are lashing out at those with friends because of their own insecurity. This law also states that if you hire a former enemy then he will be more loyal than a friend, this may be true, but that former enemy may just be a spy and still your enemy. And lastly they state that “If you have no enemies, find a way to make them.” How messed up do you have to be to tell people to not trust their friends and make enemies. This law as long with the rest may not be a good moral guide but they are in use and have proved their results. Ofcourse, following laws like this make you resented by the people and history has shown that leaders who follow immoral guides such as these laws, never last.

GUILT TRIP

April 10th, 2008 by shorewoodbaird2 in Uncategorized · No Comments

One day as I was walking down the long and winding road to my grandmothers house, a stranger bumped into me and made me drop the pencil I was holding. Without saying as much as sorry, the stranger continued past me. This made me very angry and before I knew it, I started to transform. My skin started to turn green in hue, and my bulging muscles ripped the clothes from my body. I turned around to see the stranger who had bumped into me running as fast as he could away from me. It took me hardly any time to catch up to him and gobble him up.

The next day I awoke in my grandmothers guest room fully aware of the sharp pains coming from my stomach. A trip to the doctor revealed that I had a bad case of the guilt. The rest of the day kept having these bad feelings. That night I kept having nightmares which made made me toss and turn about. The next day we went to the doctor to see if there was any medicine that could treat the gout. The doctor said there was no formal medicine but he had heard that confessing ones sins at the church could relieve the guilt. I was not a Christian but I still went and confessed my sins and now my sleep is filled with dreams of ponies, and my Sunday mornings consist of singing gospel.

The Dumbing of America Q’s

March 10th, 2008 by shorewoodbaird2 in Uncategorized · No Comments

1. She is trying to convince that America is getting dumb. “Americans are in serious intellectual trouble — in danger of losing our hard-won cultural capital to a virulent mixture of anti-intellectualism, anti-rationalism and low expectations.”

2. She says our attention span is going down, she says a survey showed that 1 in 5 Americans think the sun revolves around the earth.

3. Jacobs beleives that all the screen time and inadequate schooling is to blame for our stupidity.

4. “Anti-intellectualism” is what the author uses to say that we strive to be average and that we are against knowledge.

5. The “erosion of general knowledge” is that school systems and people in general fail to be educated like they used to.

6.  She is saying that people do not want to learn anddo not think it is important.

7. With society advancing in all areas, science, technology, mathmattics… etc. i cannot see how she still supports her crazy theory that we are getting dummer.
